OPNET Model Library, developed by OPNET Technologies, is a comprehensive collection of pre-built, rigorously validated models for the OPNET Modeler network simulation environment. It provides ready-to-use representations of network elements and behaviors across wired and wireless domains, including protocol stacks, routing and switching logic, link and physical layers, application traffic, quality of service mechanisms, and mobility effects.
Designed to accelerate studies and reduce modeling effort, the library lets users assemble end-to-end scenarios, tune parameters, and collect detailed performance statistics to support what-if analysis, capacity planning, design verification, and research. It is widely used by network engineers, researchers, and educators to evaluate architectures, compare protocols, and assess performance under realistic operating conditions.
The library is extensible, offering source-level visibility and the ability to customize or create new models to match specific technologies or vendor implementations. Its consistency, documentation, and standards-based behavior help ensure repeatable results and credible insights for decision-making.
